Kids Breathe Better

In Australia, one in six kids is diagnosed with asthma, and it's a serious condition. Asthma is one of the key reasons children are rushed to the hospital emergency ward and it's also one of the top reasons for school absenteeism. If it's not managed correctly, asthma is a potentially fatal condition.

In Australia the Asthma Foundations in each State work to raise awareness of how to deal with childhood asthma, key programs include:

This initiative has seen approximately 50% of all schools in Australia become Asthma Friendly. A further 30% are working toward this accreditation. You can check if your school is Asthma Friendly on www.asthmafriendlyschools.org.au.

Asthma Foundations Australia is committed to reducing the burden of asthma on children with asthma under six years of age and has developed this essential program to provide best practice guidelines for childcare services, kindergartens and preschools.

The Asthma Friendly Children's Services Program provides management, staff/carers and parents with guidance and assistance to ensure sensible steps are taken to protect children from asthma related incidents. Parents take comfort in the knowledge that their child's individual asthma is understood and the service can respond to situations ranging from mild symptoms to an emergency.

The donate a Dyson campaign is aimed at providing childcare centres throughout Australia with one of the key tools they need to help manage asthma and allergy triggers in the centre. Just like in the home, maintaining a clean centre environment, can help reduce the asthma triggers such as dust mites, pollen, mould and bacteria.
